Spiritual Health Declaration

BY REV GOH YONG KUANG

Currently, visitors and customers who patronize places offering essential services are required to have their temperature taken and complete a Health &Travel declaration form before they are allowed into the premises. Among some of the questions in the checklist are: Do you have any chronic diseases? Are you feeling unwell or having any respiratory symptoms (such as fever, cough, sore throat or runny nose)? Have you travelled outside Singapore in the past 14 days? Have you been in close contact with a person who has been confirmed/suspected to have COVID-19, Are you currently serving Quarantine Order (QO), Leave of Absence (LOA) or Stay-Home Notice (SHN)?

These questions form part of the ongoing measures to identify those who are vulnerable or infected and to reduce or prevent the spread of the coronavirus that could affect and endanger the wellbeing of the entire community.

How do we keep the Body of Christ strong and healthy? By ensuring that each member of the body is spiritually healthy. How do we know one is not? By looking out for certain symptoms or tell-tale signs. The following questions might be helpful:

  1. Have you stopped reading the bible and/or pray regularly?
  2. Have you skipped or stopped attending church services to worship God with others in the past 6 months to a year?
  3. Have you been critical and judgemental towards your church leaders and pastors and/or towards members of the congregation?
  4. Have you been harbouring any bitterness and resentment against God and/or the Body of Christ?
  5. Are you struggling with the spirit of unforgiveness?
  6. Have you been associating with people of questionable characters and condoning their values and practices?
  7. Have you been personally involved in questionable practices and/or relationships?
  8. Are you experiencing the loss of spiritual conviction and making excuses for your sins and shortcomings?
  9. Are you seeking Christ’s kingdom first?
  10. Have you been telling others about Jesus?

The world is racing against time to develop a vaccine for the deadly coronavirus. The cure for spiritual condition is already available in Christ!

A healthy spiritual life is not a sinless life – but a life marked by faith, obedience and repentance. The bible promises that if we confess our sins,God is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness (1John 1:9).

Praise God for His mercy and healing grace!
