Mission and Vision

 

Our mission as a church is to be committed to worshipping, nurturing, caring and witnessing for Christ, so that all might become disciples of Christ, maturing into Christlikeness, to the glory of God.

 

Our vision is to grow as a Christ-like community prepared for His return.

 

History of Our Church

 

1848

An early missionary,

Rev Benjamin Keasberry,

established the

Malay Chapel at

Prinsep Street

1856

Rev Thomas Mckenzie

came to SG, he hired

Elder Tan See Boo,

to work alongside

and preach at

Bt Timah Mission station.

1862

By the Grace of God,

land was granted by the goverrment

to build a church at Bt Timah,

and funds were raised

by the Malay Chapel.

GPC was constructed.

1881

Rev John A. B. Cook

was sent to Singapore

after calls were made as the Presbyterian congregation

had burgeoned.

They were from the Swatow

and Amoy immigrant community.

1889

Pei Hwa

Presbyterian Primary

School (PHPPS)

was

established.

1935
An evangelist,
Dr John Sung,
came to SG,

the local churches

experienced revival

1951

Construction of

the new building of

GPC and PHPPS.

1955

The church name

was changed to

Glory Presbyterian Church

(formerly known as

Chinese Christian Church).

 1968

    English Worship

    at GPC started.

2001

GPC celebrated

their 

120th anniversary

and thanksgiving.

2018

English Worship

celebrated their

Jubilee

50th Anniversary

and Thanksgiving.

Statement of Belief


 

The church is rooted in the Reformed Faith and we affirm the Lordship of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. We look to the Scriptures as the inspired Word of God and the one authoritative and infallible standard of our faith and practice. We welcome those who profess Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour into our formal membership.

Church Theme 2023: A Heart for Souls

 

For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed?
And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard?
And how are they to hear without someone preaching?

(Romans 10: 13-14)

 

Objectives for 2023

To share God's heart for the lost.

- To fulfill the Great Commission of Jesus Christ.

- To promote missions & evangelism as a way of life.

- To develop, equip, recruit and send laborers into the harvest field.

- To support the work of missions & evangelism and to collaborate with
various mission agencies in local and global missions.
