The apostle speaks of the partnership he had with the Philippians.
I thank my God in all my remembrance of you,
always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy,
because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.
PHILIPPIANS 1:3-5
A story is told of a 100-metre race organized for kids. In this race, there was only one gold medal to be won. There were seven children competing for that one gold medal. Soon after the race began, the last child fell down. Without hesitation, the sixth-place child stopped to pick up the seventh child. Seeing the sixth child had stopped, the fifth child also stopped. And so did the fourth, the third and right to the first child…all of them have forgotten that the race was for one gold medal. Instead, they teamed together and ran through the finish line hand-in-hand. The organizer of the race finally had to decide to award every child a gold medal each. They had never seen such teamwork and partnership! The spectators cheered and gave the children a standing ovation.
In the Christian race (and ministry) there are no superstars, no competitors – but only teammates, partners, and co-workers!
God’s work is accomplished by people putting aside their differences, their personal interests and agendas and work together to accomplish a common goal and objective. God’s work is accomplished by people who are not out to prove themselves or seek recognition – but in humility, help each other complete the race and accomplish the work!
As God’s people, called into the Glory community, let us look out for each other, encourage, and spur one another to persevere in God’s work. And let us help each other realize our potential and empower each other to exercise our God-given gifts!
There are numerous ways we can be partners with one another.
For a start, we can…
Let us be thankful that we are partners in the gospel ministry!
“We are most happy when we are
most focused on serving God together.”
- Gary Thomas
