...with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

EPHESIANS 4:2-3

“Whether you like it or not, this is your family! How can you say you want to
leave this church?”

These words from a dear brother in Christ have echoed in my mind since we last spoke. He was upset and heartbroken. The church is his spiritual family. He grew up in this church and his parents were in this church too. Even before he was born, he belonged to this church! He was affected when he saw people leave as issues remain unresolved.

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

- ROMANS 12:1

I had a phone conversation with a close friend during my SHN. We had a good conversation, a long one. I shared with him my joys and fears in this time of transition and he told me about his life near retirement and how if the pandemic were to drag on, he would be forced to close his business. He also shared with me the joys of being a grandfather.

LET THE CHILDREN COME TO ME; DO NOT HINDER THEM, FOR TO SUCH BELONGS THE KINGDOM OF GOD…

– MARK 10:14

The family gathered around the Word.

First, Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, you are looking for me, not because you saw miraculous signs but because you ate the loaves and had your fill.”

Many years ago, I met an old Christian who was sent to jail in her younger days for distributing copies of the Bible which was prohibited in her country. She served a number of years in jail, witnessed the harsh ways that the guards treated the prisoners and also suffered badly under them. When I met her in her old age, she was confined in her wheelchair and was in ill health.

The apostle speaks of the partnership he had with the Philippians.

I thank my God in all my remembrance of you,

always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy,

because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us…” JOHN 1:14a

The gospel of John (1:14) speaks of the incarnational ministry of Jesus.  God became man and lived among the people.
