We have been talking about what does it mean to be missional in the past four weeks. This is the last day of 2023, let’s remind one another to focus on what we are called to be as His missional church.
As we are trying to improve our church structure and upgrade our facilities, this is important, but I think it's imperative to shift our focus from the mere scaffolding to the rich content that fills its framework.
It's not just about the grandeur of architecture; it's about infusing every nook and cranny with the essence of genuine connection, both with God and with one another. I think we all agree that the church is not an edifice of bricks and mortar, but the church is a living organism - a community pulsating with the heartbeat of shared faith and profound relationships. To be a church, is to be Christ’s body, which is to prioritize the content that animates it, not the structure.
As we build the body of Christ, first and foremost, we should lay the foundation of prayer that undergirds every decision and endeavour. We want to think and act and serve in line with Jesus, the head, because we want to please God. From 15 February 2024, we will be starting a church-wide online prayer meeting. We will share more in time to come.
Let’s think about the missional church in this manner:
o The walls be constructed with the bricks of authentic worship, where hearts are laid naked before God.
o The windows can be the transparency of genuine fellowship, where masks are discarded, and souls encounter one another in truth.
o The pillars of teaching and discipleship should not just be sturdy structures but conduits of transformation, where the Word takes root and blossoms into lives lived for Christ.
o The roof can be the covering of Christ’s love that shelters each member, a love that reflects the very character of God.
With this intimate and growing relationship with God and His people, we continue to reach out to our neighbours and the lost world.
A missional church is not about the grandiosity of the structure but the weight of glory it carries, a glory manifested in the lives of individuals and the collective body.
A missional church is not an architectural marvel but a living testament to the transforming power of God.
So, in the endeavour to let church be church, let's not be consumed solely by the external aesthetics. Instead, let's pour our efforts into cultivating an environment where every beam, every brick, resonates with the Spirit's presence, creating a space where people don't just attend church but encounter God and one another in profound and transformative ways.
May the year 2024 in GPC be filled with tears and laughter as our missional God transforms us into His missional church!
