Weight is one of those sensitive topics that we normally avoid in a conversation. Yet, it’s also a subject that one should not ignore, brush away or take offence… especially if it concerns an underlying medical issue. Lately, some people have been asking about my weight loss and expressing concern.
A long time ago, king Belshazzar, the Babylonian monarch, was given a message that appeared on the wall of his banquet hall. Part of the message read, "He [God] has weighed you on his balance scales, and you fall short of what it takes to be king." Daniel 5:27, CEV [Emphasis Mine]
If being physically underweight (or overweight) is a cause for concern – falling short of the moral and spiritual weight should cause us to wake up and pay attention! Our spiritual weight could be an indication of spiritual malnutrition or other conditions.
God is a weight watcher! He has a scale where He weighs every one of us. He weighs our thoughts, our words, our actions, and intentions. He weighs our character, our heart’s motive and attitude. How does your life and mine measure up to God’s standards of righteousness and holiness?
Whether we know it or not, like it or not - one day we will all be placed on God’s scales and be judged.
Will we measure up or fall short?
PRAYER: Thank you, Lord, for Your Word, which shines like a light into every nook and cranny of our hearts to expose the darkness that is hidden from others, but not You. Nothing can escape from Your righteous judgement. Deliver us from sin and cause us to respond in humble repentance and receive Your forgiveness. In Jesus’ name we ask and pray, Amen!
