Our church theme for 2022 is ‘Fellowship’ with a focus on ‘A Heart for One Another’
[Romans 12:10a, “Love one another with brotherly affection”].
In a large church in South America, a pastor got up to deliver his sermon. He stood before the congregation and said, “Love one another,” then he sat down. Everyone just sat there and stared at him and then at each other. No one knew what to do.
A few moments later he stood up, took his place behind the podium, and said, “Love one another,” and he took his seat again. Once more the congregation sat in stunned silence, perhaps thinking, “That’s kind of a short message”.
He stood up a third time and said, “Love one another,” and he sat down. Then a few people caught on to the rules of the game. They turned to the people around them and said, “How are you doing? Can I pray for you? Is there an area of your life where you could use some help? Could I offer you some encouragement?” They began to extend love to each other right there and then!
How can our congregation live out this commandment to ‘Love one another’ in these trying times? Let’s take a cue from the creative and engaging design of this year’s Church Planner.
We can demonstrate ‘A Heart For One Another’ by giving each other a thoughtful call, or sending an encouraging message, or leaving a practical gift for someone who is homebound or in health-risk-isolation, or simply by participating in worship together and having a take-away from the message of God.
